Wien 1170 Hernals - Wienerwald Photos
I'm jumping around a little chronologically here. I have a pretty big backlog of pictures to post to the blog. The photos in this post were taken in April, at the same time as these Hernals photos. The Wienerwald (Vienna woods) is huge, bordering the western side of the city. It takes me about 10 minutes to reach the woods via public transport. I don't think I could hack living in Vienna if there wasn't some nice nature nearby.

This plaque is a memorial to Richard Bambula, a 17-year old ehrsame Jungling (honorable boy) who died in 1919 while driving timber in the woods.

Here's John, contemplating a walk through the forest.

I need to get out to the Wienerwald and take some pictures during the Summer. These are a little stark.

This lady was really friendly. She chatted with John and I for awhile about damals (back then), modern child-rearing practices and her regular walks through the woods, exercising other people's dogs.

Austrian forests remind me of Märchen (fairy tales). Somehow, they seem to be the perfect settings for stories like those from the brothers Grimm.

The city backs right up onto the forest, thankfully.
