Sunday in Vienna

Today Craig and I took a walk in the first district. It was cold, and I had some work to do, but the skies were too clear and sunny to stay inside. After walking briskly for a few minutes, we were warmed up. We took about 20 minutes to walk from our side of the city (near the Rathaus / City Hall) to Rotenturmstrasse, near Schwedenplatz.

I was surprised by how many people were out this afternoon. I even saw a small tour group following their leader. The Graben (Craig's favorite street in Vienna) and the area around Stephansplatz (St. Stephen's Place) were full of pedestrians.

We stopped in at the Cafe Alt Wien (Old Vienna Cafe - scroll down to third cafe) for a couple of coffees. We hung out there for an hour or so, talking about how well things are going for both of us right now.

The conversation and the walk made us both hungry, and while we'd considered a Schnitzel at Zum Figlmüller, Craig was leaning toward his old standby (as he usually does in matters of food), so we headed to the Esterhazy Keller. We both ordered our standard meal, Schweinsbraten, Knödel, Saurkraut, bread, Liptauer and Schwarzwurzel-salat.

The food was great, cheap, and too plentiful, as always. I couldn't finish mine, but I never can.

After dinner, we made our way back to the apartment and relaxed. What a great day...

Hi Neil,

I'm really glad you enjoyed the site. I have a lot of fun running it. Vienna is a wonderful place to live, with a wealth of history to write about and interesting things to photograph. If you're up for a coffee or beer when you swing through, send me an email. I have a few Scottish friends and acquaintances, some of whom live in Texas - I might even know your brother.

Thanks for the kind words,
Kurt
